What is a Cochlear Implant?

A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear. Unlike hearing aids, which make sounds louder, cochlear implants bypass the damaged hair cells of the inner ear (cochlea) to provide sound signals to the brain.

Hearing Loss in Both Ears

Patients with moderate to profound hearing loss in both ears can benefit greatly from getting a Cochlear Implant.

Tired of Hearing Aids

If you are  currently receiving little to no benefit from hearing aids, then this option might be for you.

50% Cognition with Bad Ear

Score 50% or less on sentence recognition tests done by hearing professionals in the ear to be implanted.

60% Cognition with Both Ears

Score  60% or less on sentence recognition tests done by hearing professionals in the non-implanted ear or in both ears with hearing aids.

Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama Charitable Hospital, Vrindavan has been empanelled in the Cochlear Implant Scheme (ADIP Scheme) of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Empowerment Person with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Government of India. Under this scheme, children below five years of age with hearing impairment, falling under BPL are entitled to receive Cochlear Implants free of cost through our Hospital. The insertion of the implants are conducted under the able leadership of Dr. Ashish Kumar Lahiri assisted by other ENT Surgeons. Screening for identifying the Children with hearing difficulty is also conducted.
